Senator Rand Paul just talked himself out of the Republican Primary race and set up a “bipartisan run” for Hillary’s VP. Here he is on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“ISIS exists and grew stronger because of the hawks in our party who gave arms indiscriminately. They created these people. ISIS is all over Libya because these same hawks in my party loved – they loved Hillary Clinton’s war in Libya. They just wanted more of it.”
Don’t get us wrong, there’s lots of room to discuss the appropriate use of US military power around the world, but this statement falls not just outside the room, but outside by maybe a dozen zip codes to the left of the room.
There’s always been some question about how far Rand Paul would distance himself from his dad, Ron Paul. We guess that question’s been answered. Not far enough. And just so we’re clear, Ron Paul is a complete and utter nut case who is a racist and an anti-Semite of the first order. We wouldn’t spit on Ron if he was on fire.
It’s going to be interesting to watch as Rand tries to distance himself from this remark. He can’t say it was taken out of context or that he was misunderstood or misquoted. Those may work for a little longer for Ben Carson, but they won’t work for Rand Paul.
He may not realize it yet, but he’s toast. We have had lots of moments where we liked Rand. We won’t be having any more.
