Univision, the Spanish language television channel, has fired television personality Rodner Figueroa after he said that First Lady Michelle Obama looked as if she were a member of the cast of the Hollywood film Planet of the Apes.
He’s openly gay, biracial, a minority – but fired – by Michelle Obama?
On the popular Univision television show “El Gordo Y la Flaca,” (translation: the Fat and the Skinny), Emmy award-winning host Rodner Figueroa said, “You know Michelle Obama looks like she is of the cast of “The Planet Of The Apes,” whilst gesturing to a picture of First Lady Michelle Obama. He was quoted during a segment featuring makeup transformations by a makeup artist, Paolo Ballesteros, who uses makeup to enhance his own features to make himself look like famous women. Figueroa is most known for his sharp criticism of fashion faux pas.
Univision almost immediately terminated Figueroa; an executive told “People en Espanol” there was no place for racist comments in the network. Figueroa is also the host of another Univision show, “Sal Y Pimienta.”
The Univision host is just the latest in several casualties of professionals who have lost their jobs after being critical of President Obama, or the first family.
The firing of Jill Abramson the former executive editor of The New York Times happened May 2014 because she “went over the line” in criticizing the heavy-handed tactics used by the Obama administration in dealing with the media, claimed radio talk show host Tom Sullivan.
Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., publisher of The Times, announced Wednesday that Abramson had been fired, citing “an issue with management in the newsroom.”
In March 2014, William White was fired from his job as D.C. Insurance Commissioner the day after he questioned the president’s proposed healthcare fix, NBC News reported last year. The D.C. city government later named Chester A. McPherson (White’s former deputy) as the acting insurance commissioner. White told NBC News that his termination came after he released a statement reacting to a presidential announcement which read in part: “The action today undercuts the purpose of the exchanges, including the DC Health Link, by creating exceptions that make it more difficult for them to operate.”
TN GOP staffer Elizabeth Lauten resigned in November 2014 after releasing a Facebook posting aimed at Malia and Sasha Obama after their appearance at the president’s annual turkey pardoning ceremony last week at the White House. Lauten, was communications director for Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.).
She criticized the two girls by saying, “Act like being in the White House matters to you.
Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.
And certainly don’t make faces during televised, public events.”
Lauten later apologized for her comments.
To be fair, the Obama girls really didn’t look too happy to be attending the turkey pardoning…

Univision Host — Michelle Obama Got Me Fired
The Univision talk show host canned for racist remarks about Michelle Obama says the pink slip was generated from the First Lady’s Office. Rodner Figueroa’s team tells TMZ … no one from the station or social media uttered a peep when he said Wednesday morning that a makeup artist who transformed himself into Michelle Obama, looked like a member of the “Planet of the Apes” cast. The team claims at 10:20 PM Wednesday they got a call from a Univision exec who said Michelle Obama’s office called the network to complain. Figueroa wrote a letter to the First Lady — obtained by TMZ — in which he says he’s from a bi-racial family, half-black, half-Latin, and adds he’s the first openly gay Hispanic TV presenter.
