When You Find Out The Average Reading Level For A College Freshman, You’ll Fear For The Future Of America

We all know that any time you put the government in charge of anything, it won’t be long before its run completely into the ground.

Our education system is a perfect example of this phenomenon, as test scores have continued to plummet and children are entering college without the foggiest notion of how to do basic mathematics, balance a check book, or possess an elementary education in the fundamentals of American history and the Constitution.

Heck, half of them can’t even tell you who the vice president is!

Oh, and apparently they can’t read good.

That’s a line from Zoolander for those who aren’t culturally savvy.

From Campus Reform:

The average U.S. college freshman reads at a seventh grade level, according to an educational assessment report.

“We are spending billions of dollars trying to send students to college and maintain them there when, on average, they read at about the grade 6 or 7 level, according to Renaissance Learning’s latest report on what American students in grades 9-12 read, whether assigned or chosen,” said education expert Dr. Sandra Stotsky.

“The average reading level for five of the top seven books assigned as summer reading by 341 colleges using Renaissance Learning’s readability formula was rated 7.56 [meaning halfway through seventh grade],” Stotsky told Breitbart Texas.

The study also found that most high school graduates don’t do much with mathematics past eighth-grade compared to students in other high-achieving countries.

I think the next logical question to ask after letting these stats soak into your brain for a minute is where the heck all of the tax dollars we’re pouring into the education system are going, because it isn’t being spent on educating our children.

That much is for sure.

Rather than actually teaching kids and preparing them for life as an adult, the money we all have stolen from our paychecks by Big Government is going toward the creation of curriculum designed to indoctrinate children with progressive ideology and beliefs.

Don’t believe me?

In San Francisco, a bunch of librarians just developed a curriculum designed to teach kids all about the “Black Lives Matter” protesters–the same bunch that’s burned down half a city, rioted, looted, and everything else all in the name of “equality.”

The real tragedy is this “curriculum” is vastly more popular than the one available to teachers on the Bill of Rights. The Black Lives Matter guide has 250 hits, while the Bill of Rights has 35.

Bummer.

If we really care about our children’s education, then it’s time to fight to abolish the Department of Education Indoctrination and remove all federal influence from the equation.

Schools are better managed at the state and local level where parents can have a greater say and impact on what children are taught.

Yeah, this means giving up federal funding, leaving parents with higher out of pocket costs for schooling, but hey, at least your children will actually be able to read.

The values taught to kids would be those shared by the local community, since parents would have the final say in approving curriculum and teachers.

Maybe one day we’ll actually see the federal government tossed out of the education system so our young people can flourish and thrive, along with the rest of America.

Wishful thinking, right?
