Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82 just weeks after making the final touches to Amal Clooney’s wedding gown.
The star, who has shaped the wardrobes of Hollywood icons for decades, passed away at his home in Kent, Conneticut, yesterday surrounded family friends and “more than a few dogs.”
A statement – released this morning by company executives Alex and Eliza Bolen – read: “While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us.
“Oscar’s hard work, his intelligence and his live of life are at the heart of the company.
The news of the designer’s death comes just weeks after Amal Alamuddin Clooney wore his dress for her wedding to George Clooney on September 27.
De la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic and first found fame with his designs when he started making outfits for Jackie Kennedy in the 60s.
He is survived by his wife Annette and his adopted son, Moises, who is a designer at his label.
