Joan Rivers Death: The Plot Thickens, Doctors Hide

0

Joan Rivers is dead because a celebrity hound doctor  got the upper hand over the facility director. Here’s what I think happened: Dr. Gwen Korovin, Joan’s ear-nose-throat doctor played Rock, Paper, Scissors with Dr. Lawrence Cohen, medical director of Yorkville Endoscopy over allowing Korovin into the operating room. Korovin won the game, and Nah-nah-nah, she was allowed in. She convinced Cohen a biopsy should be performed, a.k.a. Photo op!

While Joan was on the operating table Korovin had the audacity to stop the medical procedure to take a selfie with the unconscious comic star. She apparently wanted another feather in her hat, notch on her belt, celeb photo on her wall. She proved that snapping a trophy pic outweighed her diligence to giving quality care to her high profile patient. Now Joan’s dead.

Since the kicker was  this goofball shouldn’t have been in the operating room to begin with,  Dr. Cohen, the knucklehead who had okayed Korovin’s intrusive procedure has lost his job. You, dope, Cohen. Had you been castrated somewhere along the way? Had a spine-ectomy? What were you thinking allowing an unauthorized cutting by a limo chaser with M.D. after her name?

Don’t believe me? Here are your second opinions. h/t: Radar Online

Joan Rivers’ personal ear nose and throat specialist Dr. Gwen Korovin never shied away from the limelight when it came to flaunting her celebrity client list and doing high-profile interviews. But RadarOnline.com can reveal that after the biopsy she was doing on Rivers ended in her death — and investigation insiders have accused her of taking a selfie mid-surgery — Korovin has gone deep underground in an attempt to avoid public outcry. Meanwhile, however, Joan’s daughter Melissa is moving full-speed-ahead with plans for a lawsuit.

“Everyone close to Joan thinks Dr. Korovin skipped town,” an insider tells Radar. “Joan’s daughter Melissa has been telling friends that she is a spineless monster.” Multiple attempts to reach Korovin at her offices in Manhattan were unsuccessful.

But that won’t prevent Korovin — whose celebrity clients have included John Mayer, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga and more — from having to face the music. Radar has exclusively learned that Melissa is telling close friends she will be filing medical board complaints against Korovin and other doctors involved in the endoscopy and unauthorized biopsy on her mother — and she wants their licenses to practice revoked.

Expected to file the complaints by next week at the latest, “Melissa is taking this very seriously,” the insider said. “She has been shocked by the reports of her mother’s ear, nose and throat doctor took a selfie picture with Joan when she was on the table. It only proves to Melissa that she needs to make sure this doesn’t happen to another person. Filing the medical board complaint against Dr. Lawrence Cohen and Dr. Korovin will give Melissa the power to make sure she gets answers.”

“Her mother trusted these doctors to take care of her, and it appears that there was a huge failure of epic proportions on multiple levels,” the source continued.

Under the care of Dr. Cohen, who performed the endoscopy on Rivers, and her E.N.T. Specialist Korovin, who performed an unauthorized biopsy on the Fashion Police star, Rivers stopped breathing and later died.

The biopsy was not authorized, as Rivers never signed a consent form. And once it began, her vocal cords began to swell, Anderson 360 revealed Tuesday night. But that’s not all. Not only was Korovin not supposed to be treating the comedienne, 81, at this time, medical staffers have also told investigators that she snapped a selfie with the beloved funny woman, while she was under anesthesia – a major violation of privacy, given she did not give her consent to have her picture taken.

Dr. Cohen, who doubled as the clinic’s medical director, has since parted ways with Yorkville. The clinic confirmed his departure, stating, Dr. Cohen “is not currently performing procedures…nor is he currently serving as medical director.”

The source adds, “Melissa is just absolutely numb from all of this and hasn’t had the time to process the fact that her mother died. She hasn’t really begun that because of all the questions and controversy surrounding Joan’s death. She is touched by the outpouring of love her family has received from Joan’s fans. She just keeps saying, her mother shouldn’t have died.”

This from CNN:

(CNN) — The cardiac arrest leading to Joan Rivers’ death happened as the comedian’s personal doctor began performing a biopsy on her vocal cords, a source close to the death investigation told CNN.

A staff member at Manhattan’s Yorkville Endoscopy clinic told investigators that the doctor, who ha[d]not been publicly identified, took a selfie photo in the procedure room while Rivers was under anesthesia, the source said.

Rivers, 81, was at the clinic for a scheduled endoscopy by another doctor, gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen. That procedure, intended to help diagnose her hoarse voice and sore throat, involved the insertion of a camera down her throat.

After Cohen, the clinic’s medical director, finished his work, a biopsy was done on Rivers without her prior consent, according to the source.

Clinic: Vocal-cord biopsy did not kill Joan Rivers

“Even though you are a licensed physician, you still should have, if you will, the checks and balances to get your approval to practice in that particular place,” said Dr. Arthur Caplan, a medical ethicist at New York University’s Langone Medical Center.

Investigators believe that Rivers’ vocal cords began to swell during the allegedly unauthorized biopsy, cutting off the flow of oxygen to her lungs, which led to cardiac arrest on the morning of August 29, the source said.

Rivers, 81, was rushed by paramedics from Yorkville Endoscopy to New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital a mile away, where she died a week later.

Yorkville Endoscopy issued a statement last Thursday denying reports that any vocal cord biopsy has ever been done at the clinic, although federal privacy law prevented any patient information from being released.

The day after the denial was issued, the clinic confirmed that Dr. Cohen “is not currently performing procedures… nor is he currently serving as medical director.”

The source said that at this time neither Cohen nor the ear, nose and throat doctor have been accused of wrongdoing by investigators.

The clinic declined to respond to the source’s comments about a biopsy or a selfie, citing federal privacy law.

Bad judgment ran amok in the clinic on the day Joan Rivers died. The levity is dry, and the good ol’ boy, drinking whiskey and rye, is Gwen Korovin, M.D. on the lam.
