OK so by now, everyone in America should know that we’re losing our veterans at a rate of 20 per day. There are no more excuses. No more “We didn’t know”, no more “We are looking into it”. We’re needlessly losing 20 Americans per day and the worst part of it is…we can stop it.
To Mr. Obama, to every member of Congress both House and Senate, to the new administrator of the VA; think about it. You’re all fully aware of the backlog of veterans who are in dire need of help. I get it, you’re busy having meetings, forming committees and panels and doing Lord knows what else to correct the problem in the future. In the meantime, there are still thousands of people still waiting for help. Every day when you sit down to your nice dinners, when you’re at the gym working out, when you’re doing whatever it is you do, you have the lives of 20 Americans on your head. Tomorrow there will be 20 more. How many lives are you willing to lose? How many can you live with and still be able to sleep at night?
Mr. Obama, how can you dare give speeches honoring D-Day veterans, knowing what’s going on? Have you no soul? 20 American lives every day…on YOUR head. YOU are ultimately responsible!!!
What are you doing to correct this backlog??? These people need help NOW!!
To the Governors and members of State Legislatures all around the country…Do you think you may have some veterans in need in your State? It’s now obvious that no one at the Federal level gives a damn about them. What are YOU doing to reach out to these people? I’d be willing to bet it would be very easy for you to get a list of those who are waiting on the VA to take some sort of immediate action. With all of our taxpayer money you’re pissing away every single day, do you expect us to believe that you can’t find some way to reach out to these people and take care of them while this waiting game is going on? It wouldn’t have to permanent, just get them some help!
To the citizens, while you didn’t create this issue, there are things YOU can do. No matter what your ideology is, these people served to guarantee your right to have them. Even if you protest them, your right to do that is because of them. I can promise you, a little bit can go a long way. I bet all of you know a veteran, whether they be 24 or 94, there’re all around us. How hard would it be to just take a little time and check on them? Although we all appreciate it, the term “Thanks for your service” has just become lip service, it just doesn’t mean much any more. Actions speak much louder than words.
If you belong to a church, have you thought about creating an outreach program for the veterans? Is that not a worthy cause for you?
It’s my understanding that there is about a 30% unemployment rate among vets. Do you think that might add to their pressure? How ’bout a program to help them transition to civilian life? Show them how to make a resume, conduct an interview, how to function in a lifestyle that may be completely different for them.
Maybe you think they’re just too strange for you, maybe you’re just too uncomfortable around them. I can promise you that all of them went through some pretty uncomfortable times for you, and they never questioned it. Many of them have had so much trouble adjusting that they’re completely alone, maybe they’re just lonely. You should read this story, it might give you a different perspective…
Most of all, you can make your voices heard. Make phone calls, send emails, demand immediate action. The media has pretty much stopped covering it, it’s up to us now.
To be sure, we cannot save them all, but how many could we save? How do you put a value on a human life? Would it not be worth it if we could save even one per day? What about 5, or maybe even 10?
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the lives of any people on MY head. I intend to do everything within my power to prevent it.
What are you doing?
