Obama’s a Foreign Policy Genius.

Or something.

When this whole Syria clusterf**k was unraveling I told everybody I know that Obama’s enablers would be shouting from the housetops about what a genius he is, getting the Russians to join the party and disarm Assad.  I haven’t been disappointed.   I’m constantly amazed that these people can feed and bathe themselves.

Obama HmmmToday, I find a couple of articles that really drive the point home.  This is from Politics USAReal Liberal Politics, and it was published on September 9th, right after Obama’s shining TV appearance.

It turns out that all of the people on the left and right who were fooled by the pundits and hosts on cable news into believing that war was just around the corner were absolutely, completely, totally, utterly wrong. War is not around the corner. In fact, President Obama had a strategy to get Syria to the table. That strategy was to get the United States talking about striking Syria by asking Congress for authorization.

If President Obama wanted to strike Syria, he could have done so at any time. He didn’t, because military action in Syria was not what he wanted. The president wanted Syria to surrender their chemical weapons to the international community, and the best way to get Russia to listen was to turn up the heat by letting Congress debate a potential military strike on Syria.

Got that?  The man’s a genius.  And the author goes on to really make the point.

Obama is going to keep the pressure on Assad by letting the congressional debate take center stage for the next several weeks. The best way for Congress to avoid military strikes in Syria, while keeping Assad at the table would be to seriously consider authorizing the strikes. If Congress really wants to scare the pants off of Assad, they’ll authorize the strikes.

Got that?  TheWon is going to keep up the pressure by having the issue debated in Congress.  Well, nice try Real Liberal, but that thought didn’t live 24 hours, ABC News on September 10th.

President Obama asked Congress to delay a vote on whether to authorize military strikes against Syria, telling senators on Tuesday that the United States would not take military options off the table but would wait until a new round of diplomacy with Syria and Russia could play out.  …

The first vote on Syria was set for Wednesday in the Senate, but Majority Leader Harry Reid called for a delay at the request of the White House. While administration officials conceded they did not have enough support, they also said diplomatic avenues needed to be pursued.

“If we’re going to have any success diplomatically in the future on this issue, we have to make sure that the credible threat of military action remains,” Reid said.

Oops, didn’t have the votes.  Actually, Obama probably didn’t even have 50 votes even though there are 55 Democrats/D-Ind in the Senate.  Oh well.

But, there’s more!

Barack Obama came up with a brilliant strategy. He may end up outsmarting everyone without risking a single American life, or another dollar on military action.

Genius, sheer genius.

Oh, except maybe for this little glitch.

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Syria will fulfil [sic]an initiative to hand over its chemical weapons only when the United States stops threatening to strike Syria, RIA news agency quoted President Bashar al-Assad as saying in a television interview.

Assad also said that Damascus will begin handing over information on its chemical weapons stockpiles one month after it joins a anti-chemical weapons convention.

When we see the United States really wants stability in our region and stops threatening, striving to attack, and also ceases arms deliveries to terrorists, then we will believe that the necessary processes can be finalized,” he was quoted as saying in an interview with Russian state television.

Hell of a job Barack.  Hell of a job.  You’re a genius.
